The Beach Minerals Producers Association (BMPA) was started in 1995 as an effort to unite producers of beach minerals and work towards the sustainable development of the industry. It is the only association in the country that represents the complete breadth of beach minerals producers, sellers, traders, employees and their families. The BMPA is comprised of over 120 members who have been actively involved in mining beach minerals such as garnet, ilmenite, zircon, rutile, leucoxene and sillimanite for over 30 years.<\/p>\n

BMPA has been a pioneer in the concerted and collective efforts of the beach minerals industry. It constantly works with its member producers and authorities to enable the industry to realise its fullest potential in an environmentally conscious approach.<\/p>\n

Having been accredited by the Quality Council of India, BMPA is an Accredited Business Membership Organisation. In addition to contributing Rs 5,000 crores in foreign exchange every year, BMPA also provides employment\u00a0 and organises social welfare programs for over 50,000 people in southern Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Kerala.<\/p>\n

BMPA is a registered association formed for the sole purpose of espousing the cause of the beach minerals industry and its members. Though India is blessed with an abundance of mineral wealth, the true potential of beach minerals is yet to be realised. While there are many trade associations for iron ore, coal and bauxite that work for the advancement of the mining industry in general, there has never been a single entity to champion the distinctive needs of the beach minerals industry<\/span> while also keeping in mind the pressing need for environmental protection.<\/p>\n

Since its inception in 1995, BMPA has worked tirelessly to bring about policy change to reflect the unique eco-friendly nature of beach sand mining.<\/span> As a practise, BMPA ensures that only those practices that are a hundred per cent in line with environment safety and sustainability goals are followed.<\/p>\n

Until 1998, access to beach sand minerals (with the exception of garnet) rested solely with the Government. With the continued efforts of BMPA, the Government introduced a beach sand mineral policy in 1998 which allowed private participation in beach minerals mining. Since then, the production to reserve ratio has increased by 80%.<\/p>\n

BMPA has since appeared before a Parliamentary Committee discussing the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Bill of 2011 to suggest amendments to the mining law, taking into consideration the beach minerals industry and its negligible impact on the environment. Reports have been regularly submitted to the Government and the Mining and Environmental Ministry.<\/p>\n

      As a Quality Council of India accredited organisation, BMPA is recognised by both the Central as well as State Governments. By ensuring the utilisation of this position responsibly, BMPA stands as a voice for the development of the beach minerals industry in the relevant Government forums.<\/p>\n

      1. \u00a0Seminars, Workshops and Exhibitions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        BMPA regularly organises seminars, workshops and exhibitions on the technical and managerial aspects of the beach minerals industry. Our members come from a variety of domains within the industry, and their combined expertise lends itself to rich and insightful sessions on mining, production, development, sales, marketing, community and development, and a whole lot more.<\/p>\n

        1. Entrepreneurial Development Programme for Women<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          BMPA regularly offers a unique and custom-tailored entrepreneurial development programmes for women in the beach minerals industry. This programme has a special focus on tie-ups with other relevant associations and focuses on the rehabilitation and empowerment of women in coastal areas. Apart from this, two of our member companies run colleges in the area and they provide scholarships for poorer lady students.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
